Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library are community members who help champion our mission through volunteer work, advocacy, and support. If you’d like to get involved, visit the library or call us—we’ll help you get started.

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of the Friends of the Waldron District Library is to support, promote, and enhance the services of the Waldron District Library through volunteerism, fundraising, advocacy, and community outreach.  The Friends enable additional programs, resources, and activities beyond the library's regular budget, helping the library better serve children, adults, and families throughout the Waldron Area.

What the Friends Group Supports:
1. Programs and
Events

The Friends help fund, organize, and promote a variety of educational and recreational programs, such as:

  • Children’s activities: Story times, reading challenges, craft days, and summer reading programs.

  • Teen programs: Game nights, volunteer opportunities, and educational workshops.

  • Adult programs: Book clubs, author talks, educational lectures, and hobby or craft workshops.

  • Community events: Holiday celebrations, literacy events, local history exhibits, and family nights.

2. Advocacy and Outreach

The Friends serve as ambassadors for the library by:

  • Promoting the library’s services and value within the Waldron District and neighboring communities (Amboy, Ransom, and Wright)

  • Encouraging local residents to get library cards and use the library’s many free resources

  • Participating in community events and representing the library at fairs or local gatherings

  • Helping communicate the importance of public library funding and support

3. Fundraising and Financial Support

The Friends raise funds through a variety of activities and events, such as:

  • Book sales, bake sales, raffles, and seasonal fundraisers

  • Membership drives and donation campaigns

  • Seeking local sponsorships or grants to fund specific projects
Funds raised are used to directly support library programs and improvements that enrich the community.

4. Volunteerism and Community Involvement

Friends members contribute their time, skills, and enthusiasm to help the library thrive by:

  • Volunteering at events and programs

  • Helping with shelving, displays, and book sorting

  • Providing hospitality for library programs or visiting presenters

  • Serving on committees or the Friends’ board to plan future projects
